With Valentine's Day approaching, you may want to consider the Valentine's Day Red garden featuring swiss chard, bell peppers and tomatoes among other plants. Both are great sites to visit and I'll be sure to include them in my links page.

Earthly Goods

Stephen Brown contacted me the other day and asked if I would add a link to his site on my links page. Well Stephen, I'll do one better and give the folks a little more info about your products. In business for 11 years, Stephen and his family offer a wide variety of seeds - perennials, wildflower, herbs, annuals, and grasses. In addition, Earthly Goods sells custom seed packets for special occasions such as weddings and anniversaries, personalized seed packets for fundraising or trade shows, and you can even design your own seed packet for direct mail or gifts. This company carries a variety of garden accessories - I personally like the ceramic tree frogs - and tools. Stephen also produces a free monthly e-newsletter providing garden tips and information about new products. Go visit Earthly Goods soon but make sure you have a comfy chair and a cup of coffee when you do - you'll be there for quite awhile.

What's that?

I was looking around on the net for some plant sources and found the Whatcom Seed Company. This nursery was started in 1987 and is located in Apple Valley, Minnesota. They sell plants locally and some over the web, but are specializing in seed sales online. Seed prices average about $2.00 although a pardancanda norrisii costs $3.95 while a paeonia tenuifolia (fern leaf peony) is priced at $4.95. Pictures are scarce as are common names, so you'll need to know what you're looking for. According to my friends at Perennial Nursery, pardancanda norrisii, by the way, is a candy lily.

Free trees and plants

I learned about a new site today while reading the garden section of the newspaper. Freetreesandplants.com is just that. Translated that means no headaches for those of us who get them from red wine. Best of all, there are no animal products used in the making of Frey Wines, such as egg whites, gelatin, or dairy-derived substances. Bentonite clay is the only processing aid used, as a refining agent for the white wines. So, it's great for vegetarians. Frey Wine absolutely does have a better flavor (I have a bottle in my kitchen right now), and I recommend you try it.

Roses and more

I came across a really neat site today, Hortico Nursery. I grab every magazine I see in the stores, and have a library of books that is actually causing the bookshelf to groan from the weight, but that's another story. I was leafing through an old gardening magazine (yes, I do keep them) and found an ad for Forest Farm. Well, I went to their site today and I can't tell you how impressed I am! They offer 500 kinds of American native plants alone. The couple started their farm idea when they discussed on their honeymoon what they wanted to do with the rest of their lives. It's a great story in the "about us" section and, lo and behold 23 years later they have an exceptional business. I have ordered their 500 page (yes, 500 pages) catalog and can't wait to leaf through it. Please go visit their site soon. I know you will be as excited as I am. This tongue-in-cheek site is well worth a visit.

Plants and Seeds

Another great seed source:
Home Harvest Seeds, an online site owned by Home Harvest Garden Supply, provides discounted name brand garden flower, vegetable & herb seeds.
Home Harvest is located near my old hometown in Maryland, so be sure to visit their sites soon.

Plants and Seeds

New links of note:
Dove Creek Gardens
a grower and distributor of ornamental grasses and bamboos

Plants and Seeds

Here are some great sources for plant materials and seeds.

Santa Rosa Gardens -Unique garden plants from fourth generation growers.
